Welcome
Jan and Becki have painted Hawai’i in pure color for coming up on twenty years. We studied seeing color quickly “du premier coup” at America’s oldest and acknowledged best painting school, the Cape (Cod) School of Art, est. 1899 in Provincetown, Massachusetts. We studied there year round for five years with master painter Henry Hensche.
On Art Making:
We attune ourselves to the shapes of colors, the form and space, the light, and the feelings which arise. We paint rapidly for about 45 minutes if the light holds. Miles of canvas are behind us.
Every Jan or Becki painting has the simplicity of its inspiration as in, “I saw something”. If it’s really good, it’ll say, “I was intrigued and when I stayed a bit it was even more wonderful than I first realized”. Our landscapes, still lifes, and portraits are done entirely outdoors. They are authentic: no cameras, no computer assistance.
Aloha,
Jan Jankowski and Becki Buck
